The last newsletter regarding Shoshit Seva Sangh was issued in May, 2018. Since then there have been important developments which I thought I should bring to your notice.
The Foundation Day of Shoshit Seva Sangh was held on July 16 in the school auditorium. Parents and guardians of the students attended in large numbers, many coming from remote villages and far of districts. The students put-up a scintillating cultural performance including Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar and short plays based on themes from Mahabharata and Ramayana. The Minister for Social Welfare of Bihar was the Chief Guest and the event was widely covered in Hindi & English dailies published in Patna.
The number of alumni doing undergraduate courses has started increasing steadily. The initial intake into Shoshit Samadhan Kendra the school run by SSS was obviously small. The boys who joined in the first three years of SSK in primary classes are now passing-out. Four students are doing engineering from the Central University of Haryana and six students are doing undergraduate courses from the Central University of South Bihar. These institutions are considered very prestigious. It was difficult to finance all the students passing-out from our school in various colleges in Patna. SSS could afford to finance only those students who competed into the prestigious institutions. However, most of the remaining students [11 in number] are doing graduation from the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). They continue to be resident in the school. Attempts shall be made to establish an IGNOU center at the school for which the 2nd floor of the school building is under construction. These boys shall simultaneously be doing coaching courses with the Patna based Magnus IAS Academy to prepare them for taking competitive examinations for class I, class II & class III services in the government and public sector. The Magnus IAS Academy is confident, based on its experience that all the members of the alumni will find suitable placements in the government or the public sector. The alumni are now doing the last few laps of the marathon which they began more than a decade ago. This undoubtedly is history in the making.
